Though she created her first appearance with Abodh (1984), it was Tezaab (1988) that created her a celebrity, in the real feeling. She then appeared in Ram Lakhan (1989), Parinda (1989), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990) and Prahaar (1991). She won her first Filmfare Award for Best Celebrity for her performance in Dil (1990). She went on to celebrity in Saajan (1991), Try out (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Raja (1995) and Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997).
